At Around 11:11 AM today users started tweeting that the world’s #1 social media website Facebook was down. News of the outage quickly spread across twitter which of course is the #1 place where users voice their frustration when anything big happens both on and off the internet.
During the outage some parts of Facebook were accessible such as news feeds, but users reported issues with sharing and posting to the network.

During the outage Facebook’s developers page shared a few updates. “We are currently experiencing an increased level of API errors. We are investigating the cause and we’ll post updates when we have more information.” The last update we got from Facebook’s site was “We are seeing performance numbers improve. While the main issue is still in progress, we believe the API errors should have subsided a bit.”
A final update came from Facebook’s reps which pretty much sums up the issue. “Earlier today, a networking issue caused some people to have trouble accessing Facebook services. We quickly investigated and started restoring access within about an hour, and we have nearly fixed the issue for everyone. We’re sorry for the inconvenience.”
The popular picture sharing App Instagram which is owned and run by Facebook also experienced some issues during the period but nothing major.
