Another Silicon Valley based company is at it again. Pelican Imaging as they are called is the creator of a groundbreaking new camera technology termed Array Camera. As the term suggests, it’s made up of 16 small cameras arranged in rows and columns. This creepy looking camera technology is capable of 3D video capture, all-in-focus image capture (focusing on different points all at once) and linear measurement (distance between two points in a straight line).
Engadget spoke with company CEO, Chris Pickett who mentioned that:
his product is currently being trialed by device manufacturers and is scheduled to be part of at least one new smartphone launching in 2014.
We are not sure which handset will feature the camera next year, but our eyes are on Nokia as they are one of the six companies that have currently invested in Pelican Imaging.
